Over the years, Gilda Kashanian, the lady who has made FJ Kashanian famous, has never failed to delight and surprise me. This year, she was showing a large Persian rug, which had been stripped and “over-dyed.” But it wasn’t the standard over dye of a single color revealing the outline of the original pattern. This rug looked as if it had been re-colored by hand, almost knot by knot in such away that a completely new pattern appeared to emerge.
While the over-dyed Persian rug caught my eye, I watched person after person being drawn in to the showroom by the rug to the right. The wide open design and coloring captured their attention.
