WHAT MARKETS OR DESIGN CENTERS DO YOU ATTEND?
I am an interior designer who specializes in colorful, whimsical, contemporary design, primarily in the residential market. I work in the Washington DC metropolitan region, but also have clients in New York, Los Angeles, Denver, and Boulder, to name a few. I attend High Point Market, and I utilize the Washington Design Center, the Pacific Design Center, and New York City design centers — (NYDC, D&D Building and A&D Building, among others).
DO YOU HAVE A FAVORITE SOURCE?
I have several vendors which I regularly use for floorcovering products — including Masland, Beaulieu, and Stark Carpets. I also love Doris Leslie Blau, ABC Carpets in NYC, and go to a variety of other sources, ranging from Royal Intercontinental and the Rug Company — to Surya, Flor and Company C.
DO YOU PURCHASE MANY CUSTOM RUGS?
I design custom rugs whenever I have the opportunity.
Most recently I have used Odegard and Stark Carpets for custom rugs for clients.
WHEN DO YOU CONSIDER THE FLOOR COVERING?
Ideally, I consider floor coverings early in the design process for a room or house. In reality, the flow also evolves based on other design selections and client input/preferences.
DO YOU USE SOCIAL MEDIA OR THE INTERNET FOR DESIGNING?
I use social media, including Houzz, Pinterest, LinkedIn, and Twitter, to stay in touch with clients, as well as interior designers and product vendors. I also definitely use vendor websites to search for products — new and stock products, as well as custom ideas. I sometimes use Pinterest or other applications to collect my ideas to share with clients as well. I also sometimes work with reps to find items at market.
