Jaipur Rugs is a special company. In addition to make and selling beautiful rugs they want to make sure to support the rug weavers and their families by supporting education, paying a living wage by cutting out middle men, and making sure that children are in school not on looms. Of course it goes well beyond that. Jaipur Rugs though is one of the few manufactures who where talking about it openly at Domotex. Jaipur Rugs had their values and goals in huge letters for every potential client to see.
One of their collections, Error, was designed with the idea of a machine making an error, that while not what was intended, is itself beautiful and completely individual with no way to reproduce. The example was that a carpet weaving machine has an error (it does happen, but rarely) and what is produced got all sorts of individual problems. Or you could think of it as a color inkjet printer that drops a color out, its kind of cool but not what was looked for. These rugs are all handmade knotted rugs, only the inspiration came from machines. Thanks Sitara For spending some time with me.
