What are your criteria for choosing the floor covering?

My client’s design style and budget are at the top of my list when selecting a rug or any floor covering. I don’t want my client to fall in love with a $10,000 rug if their budget does not permit. One of my favorites is JulieDasherRugs.com.  I can select my colors, design my own pattern, decide on the content. They are truly custom artisans. My client can have a “one-of-a-kind” item,  if we so choose.

What markets or design centers do you attend regularly?

We have attended the Las Vegas market and the North Carolina market. I also shop International Market Square in Minneapolis regularly.

How often do you purchase a custom rug and for what reasons?

I purchase custom rugs every week for my clients. I typically want one or two rugs in their home to be one-of-a-kind — just for them and their home. I truly enjoy giving my clients something that they, or their friends, will never see again and something that only I as a designer could find for them.

Do you shop online or use catalogs?

I shop for floor coverings many different ways. I look online; I use catalogs; I flip through magazines. I go on Houzz.com and many of my vendors bring me samples/styles to view in person.

Color, when does it enter your rug purchase?

The color of the rug can enter into the design of a room at any time. Sometimes it drives the design of a space, and sometimes it complements it. With every room the answer will be different, which is why I LOVE my job.

Are there design rules you like to follow or to break?

I really don’t have any rules that I HAVE to follow or HAVE to break.

But one of my OWN rules that I pay close attention to when deciding on a rug is to make sure it is large enough for the space. I do not like rugs that are too small!
