With the arrival of spring and summer, a number of organizations put together a Decorator Showhouse to raise funds. This is the perfect opportunity for a designer to present their style to the public and gain new clients. A lot of work, time and money is obviously involved, but it can be very lucrative if the room is seen, and admired, by someone who is renovating or decorating their home. There is no doubt in my mind that a designer has a particular approach and style, and showcasing it in a room is a wonderful way for the pubic to get an idea of what you are all about.
There are many showhouse events throughout the United States. The public gets to see a house and garden totally transformed by a designer or landscape designer. Usually there are before and after pictures. To quote the designer Susan Nilsson, “I love doing showhouses. For an unknown designer, one beautiful room can make a career. I have done several ASID showhouses, I visit Kips Bay/NYC almost every year.”
